A little help, O gentle souls if you will.
I currently have an iPod shuffle, or as I like to call it, "The Devil". With no locking capability for the buttons, the slightest tap on the Next Track or Previous track sends me hurtling out of place on my audiobooks. While this may not seem like a big deal, the shuffle has no screen to allow me to find where I was quickly and easily, which pretty much kills the mood after I've listened to four or five hours and suddenly I'm back at the beginning. Then there's iTunes, which is an alright program except that if there are multiple CD's to the book, it places Disc 10 directly behind Disc 1, because apparently that's how we count things here in the US. 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, etc. Thank you public schools.
I need something better, but I'm torn in my desire to upgrade. The shuffle, despite the lack of a screen or button lock, has been a great little workhorse. Cost is a factor, but Apple once had a refurbished section on their site, only now I can't find it. Or, I could try a Zune, but I haven't ever heard much about them, positive or negative. They seem pretty spendy, but if I have to buy new and they're good, maybe I could give them a try. I hesitate to go with an off-brand, unless someone can recommend a good one with a video screen that isn't a fortune. My dinner tonight was hot dogs, not steak, so my budget is less than a teacher, and more than a kid flipping burgers, but not by too much, heh.
The eternal question then, clash of the titans here: Apple or Microsoft? What do you all use or recommend for your mp3 player?
