*Elbow had stood on deck watching the Captain approach Lemac and his sudden response though no she spoke no words. As they had begun to sail, Lemac spoke her mind of her debt to Falcon, and then as she walked to the starboard railing, she brushed past Elbow. He followed her there, and looked out over the water as he spoke about the loss of Falcon, the happenings at the fortress since Lemac and Falcon had set out on this journey, and how the garden was not the same without the scent of her roses. He leans back from the railing and turns to face her.*
..and it is as much you as the roses, m'lady. You seem to be one and the same.
*He pauses there, then excuses himself. Walking with some difficulty on the swaying deck, he finds his way below to his bunk and rests there a while, staring at the bottom of the bunk above and then closing his eyes. From above, he hears a few shouts.*
The crew?
*The shouts grow in intensity, and alarm, and Elbow sits up. He reaches under the bunk for the handle of his long spear. His notices the pounding of his heart, and feels with his hand the smooth yew handle. He is still crouched, removing the spear from under the bunk, as a man in black armor comes crashing through the door...*
