::he bows to the Lady Lemac and walks back to his horse. He takes him to the stables. He pays the first down payment and pats the horses head gently. He calls the stable hand over and meticuosly goes through his instructions, while removing bridle and saddle::"He must be fed thrice per day, grain in the morning and afternoon, and hay just before you shut up for the night. He is a spirited horse and you must take him out for at least two or three hours a day or he will liberate himself. Be gentle when you saddle him, but unless you want him to walk all over you, you must be firm when you ride." ::he looks down at the boys boots and frowns.:: "No spurs. If you spur him he will buck you and very likely try to kill you. And if he doesn't, I will when I return." ::the boy looks frightened but still in awe of the beast. He plucks up the courage to speak.::"S-sir. He is a beautiful mount. I w-will take the utmost care with him. B-but, I was w-wondering, may I pet him? ::Reave smiles and rubs the boys head, nodding. While the boy rubs the horses ribs, Reave puts a hand to the horse's head and whispers in his ear. It whinnies and turns it's head to look back at the boy. It looks back and bobs it's head up and down.:: "Take Obsidian for a run in the yard boy. I wanna see that you can do it, and do it right."

::He watches the boy ride Obsidian around the yard and sighs. He then returns into the stables office and writes a short letter. He returns to the stable where his companion is to stay and the boy is there, already with the saddle off and grooming the horse. Reave smiles. Pulling a wash-leather bag from his belt he hands that and the letter to the boy. Hold on to both of those. Do not open them unless the Dawn's Passage returns without me. If I do return you can destroy the letter, and either way you may keep the contents of that bag. Until then, keep them secret, keep them safe. They may very well, change your life." ::he once more tussles the boys head and leaves with a look of sadness on his face.::

::When the knight is gone the boy hides in an empty stable and opens the letter. He reads it once through and then, astonished reads it again. What is in the note, follows::

"Dear Lad,
If you read this, then my first quest with the Frost Knights, has also been my last. Please, break this news gently to Obsidian. We grew up together, following each other everywhere in life. I would hate for him to follow me in death as well. I must also charge you with another, greater request. Now, that my life is ended, Obsidian no longer has a companion. I would request that you fill that position. The bag I gave you is filled with gold to help you support his voracious hunger. Now do you remember when I said this parchment could change your life? This is how. Obsidian is not a method of transportation, nor is he a pack horse. He is a war horse and must live as one. For this to happen you must become a knight. The bag also contains a ring with my sigil upon it. Take that to my master Fenton Magus. Show him that and this note, tell him I wish him to train you. You must become a great warrior. It is the only way for Obsidian to live a normal life. Please my son, do it for me, and do it for Obsidian.

Signed
Reave The Just

P.S If you read this before the ship has returned then I shall tell you this. I will make a knight of you, if I return and you still wish it.

::The boy sits a moment, astonished at what he has read. He then stands up solemnly, and puts the letter into his pocket and secures the bag of marks to his belt, hanging on the inside of his pants. He walks over to the horse, kisses it's nose and then gets to work.::

::Reave boards the ship, all his wordly belongings, minus the saddle for Obsidian-who he did not count as a belonging, but as a friend-and stows them under a free bunk, which he lays claim to.::
