So first of all, a bit of background so you can understand what I'm talking about.
I live in Topeka, Kansas. Sadly so does Fred Phelps. If you don't know who Fred Phelps is, here is his website: God Hates America (contains some offensive/racist material)
For those who don't have time to read through the website, Fred is the head of the Westboro Baptist Church here. The members of this church take every opportunity to let everyone know their point of view by standing on street corners with their posters. They are most famous for picketing the funurals of fallen soldiers from the war. This has inspired them to be banned from several states and even more states to put laws on the books to outlaw picketing funerals all together. They picket the funerals with signs saying things to the effect that the soldier died because America supports Gay rights. The flag pole at their "chruch" flys an upside down Amercian and Canadian flag.
Now that you know who they are, I can move into my rant. Every once in a while I'll see a small group of these people on a corner in the down town area near the Capitol Building near where I work. Normally I just kind of laugh at them and read their posters for a laugh. I saw such a group this morning and at first I was laughing at them as per normal, especially when I saw a new poster "God Sent the Swine Flu". Cracked me up.
But after that I took a closer look at the people in the group and this is when I got ticked. Along with the 3 adults there were 2 children, a boy and a girl no older than maybe 8 years old. And they're standing there looking cute, each standing with a sign expressing how America's acceptance of "Fags" is why God hates us. I got pissed. These small children have absolutely no clue what those signs mean. There is no way they can understand it. But there they are, told by their parents "Here sweetie, stand here with this sign and look pretty and wave at the passing cars"
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Their views are out of wack, but what ever, they have a right to them. But to involve their children PUBLICLY in something like this just makes me sick. It's just disgusting.
